This page explains who makes quordle.uk, how the word lists and guides are put together, and what you can hold us to. If anything here does not match what you see on the site, tell us and we will correct one or the other.

Who is responsible for this site

Quordle UK is run by one person. Jorge Michele is the developer and operator. He builds and maintains the game, the tools and the word lists, and he reviews the site’s content daily.

There is no larger editorial team, no contributor network and no outside agency writing for this site. When a page says “we”, it means Jorge.

Quordle UK is an independent implementation of the four-board word game. It is not affiliated with Merriam-Webster or the original Quordle creators, and it does not use the Merriam-Webster dictionary.

The word lists

The main game uses two lists. The answer pool holds 1,994 words, and every round’s four hidden words come from it. A further 2,942 words are accepted as guesses but are never answers. The Quordle solver works from the same two lists, so its candidates match what the game accepts.

Some modes use their own pools. Classic and Daily Sequence share one pool. Extreme has a separate, harder pool, and the Weekly Challenge draws from it, refreshing every Monday. Chill uses a smaller, easier pool, and Rescue blends the Classic pool with extra words. The valid words guide explains each one.

Jorge compiled the lists from several dictionaries and then edited them for play. They are a game list, not a dictionary, so a word can be real English and still be missing. The Sources page says more about where our words and numbers come from.

What qualifies a word

  • Every word is exactly five letters.
  • Answer-pool words are common, everyday English. Obscure words are left out on purpose, which is why some real words are rejected as guesses.
  • Plurals ending in -s and regular past-tense words ending in -ed are allowed. The original Wordle answer list excludes them; ours does not.
  • Repeated letters are allowed.
  • Proper nouns are mostly excluded. A few country and city names are accepted as guesses.

How content is reviewed

Jorge reviews the site every day: the game, the tools, the word lists and the guides. There is no second reviewer. We would rather say that plainly than describe a process the site does not have.

Changes to the answer pool or the accepted-guess list, and corrections to anything we have published, are recorded on the Corrections page.

Strategy guides give our opinion and explain the reasoning behind it. Numbers that come from our own word lists are computed rather than estimated, and the Methodology page explains how.

What we do not do

  • We do not accept payment to add or remove a word.
  • We do not publish sponsored or paid content in the guides.
  • We do not use the official Quordle word list or the Merriam-Webster dictionary.
  • We do not run advertising on this site.

Telling us something is wrong

Email [email protected]. Word reports, errors in a guide and anything you can show is incorrect are all welcome. The Corrections page explains what happens next.
