What does “DLE” actually mean?
There’s no official definition. “DLE” is just the community name for the huge family of quick daily web puzzles that grew out of Wordle, everyone gets the same puzzle, once a day, usually free, usually no account. Some are direct Wordle variants. Others keep the daily ritual but change the subject entirely, math, geography, movies, meaning instead of spelling.
That’s why you’ll see games that don’t even end in “-dle” show up in DLE lists. The name stuck to the whole genre, not just the suffix.

Honest about where it breaks: the pattern holds precisely across five separate games built by different, unrelated creators, from 2 boards all the way to 32. At 64 boards, it slips to six spare guesses instead of five. Not an official rule, just a pattern we checked ourselves rather than assumed.
