Quordle word reference
Quordle Valid Words
A real English word can still get rejected in Quordle. The game does not draw from every word in the dictionary. It works from a fixed list of playable words, and quordle.uk runs its own version of that list.
The difference that matters
A valid guess is not always a possible answer
quordle.uk actually runs on two separate lists. Knowing the difference clears up most confusion about rejected words.
A five letter word the game lets you type. It can help you test letters even if it will never be the hidden word.
A smaller pool of common words. Every round of the main game picks its four hidden words from this list only.
Why this matters: a guess does not need to be a likely answer to be useful. A good guess can reveal letters across all four boards at once, even if it could never be the puzzle answer itself.
Quick diagnostic
Check if your word is valid
Type a five letter word below. We check it against the real list quordle.uk uses for the main game.
Type a word above and press Check word.
Scope: this checker covers the main quordle.uk game. Some modes use their own word pools, covered further down this page.
Troubleshooting
Why a guess gets rejected
Most rejections come down to one of four things. Work through them in order.
Check the length
quordle.uk only accepts five letter words. Anything longer or shorter will not go through.
Check your spelling
A single wrong letter is the most common reason a perfectly good word gets rejected.
Remember our list favors common words
We keep the list focused on everyday English, so a few valid but unusual words are still missing.

Common questions about word types
Plurals, proper nouns, and repeated letters
These rules trip up a lot of players because other word games handle them differently. Here is exactly how quordle.uk treats each one.
| Word type | Allowed on quordle.uk | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Plurals ending in -s | Yes | DOORS, CHIPS |
| Past tense ending in -ed | Yes | HATED, CAGED |
| Proper nouns | Rarely | A few country and city names only |
| Repeated letters | Yes | QUEUE, LEVEL |
Note: some Quordle guides say plurals and past tense words are never valid. That rule comes from the original Wordle answer list, not from quordle.uk.
Beyond the main game
Do other Quordle modes use different words?
Yes. Several quordle.uk modes pull from their own word pool instead of sharing one big list.
Shared pool
Classic and Daily Sequence draw from the same pool of more than 1,400 words.
Its own pool
Extreme uses a separate pool of just over 1,400 words, tuned for a tougher daily round.
Smaller and easier
Chill pulls from a smaller pool of about 900 words to keep the round more relaxed.
Blended pool
Rescue mixes the Classic pool with an extra set of words built for that mode.
Refreshed weekly
Weekly Challenge draws from the Extreme pool, refreshed every Monday.
Where this list comes from
How quordle.uk compares to the official Quordle
The original Quordle was built by Freddie Meyer. Merriam-Webster acquired it in 2023 and now runs the official version on its own site.
quordle.uk is a separate, independent game with its own word list. We do not use the Merriam-Webster dictionary, so a few results can differ between the two.
Use the right tool
Knowing a word is valid is only step one
If you are trying to solve a live board, you usually need more than a yes or no answer. Pick the tool that matches what you actually need.
FAQ
Quordle valid words: quick answers
Does quordle.uk allow plural words?
Yes. Many valid guesses on quordle.uk end in -s, including plain plurals. That is different from the stricter rule used on the original Wordle answer list.
Does quordle.uk allow past tense words?
Yes. Regular past tense words ending in -ed can be valid guesses here. Some other Quordle guides say this is not allowed, but that rule applies to a different word list.
Are proper nouns allowed as guesses?
A small number of country and city names appear in our guess list. Most proper nouns are left out to keep the game focused on everyday vocabulary.
Why does my word say “not in word list” even though it is real?
Our dictionary favors common words over obscure ones, so a handful of valid English words are still missing. Let us know through the contact link in the footer and we will review it.
How big is the quordle.uk word list?
The main game draws its puzzle answers from a pool of over 1,900 common English words. Thousands more words are accepted as guesses, even though they can never be the hidden word.
Do all Quordle modes use the same words?
No. Classic and Sequence share one pool, Extreme and Weekly Challenge use a tougher pool, and Chill uses a smaller, easier one. See the mode breakdown above for details.
Is the quordle.uk word list the same as the official Quordle?
No. The official Quordle is owned by Merriam-Webster and uses its own dictionary. quordle.uk runs on an independent word list, so a handful of results may differ.
